Critical Heritage Studies: Theory, Practice, Management (HUMM016)

This module offers you the opportunity to gain an understanding of cutting-edge heritage theory and practice in an international and holistic context. It moves the discipline forward in an innovative and critically engaged direction, addressing the politics of heritage and issues of agency raised by caring for the past. The module challenges us to explore how these questions inform the ways the future might be envisioned. The module provides an introduction to the theory behind core issues surrounding critical heritage studies, analysing heritage practice, management and theory; and considering the role of heritage as a lens through which global challenges such as climate change, conflict, and decolonisation may be considered.
